INTRODUCTION

Green living, or sustainable living, is a term used to represent a lifestyle that attempts to reduce a person’s or a community’s utilization of natural resources and to help conserve our planet. We are all learning how to help our world and keep it safe - and trying to improve our environment while preventing negative impacts for future generations of all kinds of species. Taking part in green living and practicing healthy habits is a movement we need everyone to take part in - and that includes you. Below are a couple of tips on how to “go green” and help save our planet one step at a time.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

Did you know that the average person generates around 4 pounds of trash every day? Just imagine - over a year, those 4 pounds build-up to weigh 1.5 tons! We’re slowly killing our planet with every plastic bottle we throw away, and you may not even know it. But let’s stop while we’re ahead. Fortunately, there is a way that we can prevent this cycle from continuing - and that’s by starting to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

There are many ways that you can REDUCE, starting with the food you eat every day. Don’t waste food - purchasing just how much food you’re going to eat will help reduce the amount that gets thrown away or wasted. An excellent way to practice this is by creating a meal plan to help you keep track of how much food is needed, and also by saving and eating leftovers. You can also try to use reusable products. By using things such as containers that can be used more than once, bringing your own bags while shopping, and refraining from the purchase of plastic water bottles, instead, using a durable water bottle or thermos.

Have a lot of plastic bags or bottles that you’re looking to throw away? Well - did you know that you can REUSE certain products that are generally thrown away? Many items that we use every day can serve more than one purpose, rather than letting it go to a landfill straight away. For example, you can use your plastic bags again when going grocery shopping, or they can be donated to local businesses such as thrift stores and libraries. Your used clothing can be cut into rags, or clothes in good condition can even be given to stores and shelters that take donations.

RECYCLING is crucial if we want to maintain the health and vibrancy of our Earth. Just throwing away plastic bottles in the right bin can lead to a decrease in the amount of waste that we send to landfills. It can also conserve natural resources that are used in the production of recyclable products. It supports the manufacturing industry and provides new jobs in the recycling industries of the United States. Make sure you’re helping the cause by disposing of glass, metal, and cans, as well as all types of plastics, cardboard, cartons, and paper in recycling bins or at designated recycling centers where you live.

Although the reasons above are just a couple, there are a lot of other ways through which you can make a difference. It may take the entire population to change the world, but one person can still make a big difference on Earth. Protect our nature, protect our air, and protect our planet. Please stay safe during these difficult times, and share these tips and keep them in mind as you go about your routine. Good luck and stay tuned for more information on how you can 'Help Us. Help Everyone. Help Everything.' coming soon!
