Although it may not seem like much at first, one person can make a difference for the better of the Worlds future by changing a few of the ways their daily life goes. This is called reducing your impact, and there are many simple ways to do so.
Not everyone is a farmer or a gardener, but if you have the time, space and are willing to put forward effort - you can start a garden. Growing your own food is an excellent way to reduce the waste, emissions, and chemicals that go into getting vegetables and meat from large scale farms and production plans to your table. At the same time, you can save a lot of money on fuel costs and the products themselves when you grow things yourself. Pesticides that are used to protect plants from insects and other pests can be toxic to humans and the environment. The fuel used to transport food to grocery stores and homes pollutes our air. Growing your own food can be healthier, and can reduce the amount of fuel money spent to buy food while saving lots of money on the food itself.
Ride a bike or walk to where you need to go! These methods don’t require you to buy fuel and can keep you healthy by giving you a daily dose of exercise. It’s an excellent way to travel when destinations are within riding or walking distance.
The world is a hectic place, with people traveling daily to work and go about their own businesses. The need to go from one place to another will never cease. Still, we can alter the way that we transport ourselves to reduce pollution and the use of valuable, limited, natural resources. One way you can travel green is by simply carpooling! Using public transport services or getting a ride to work with a group of friends rather than one vehicle for each person can considerably reduce air pollution and the amount of fuel burned. Plus, trips are always more fun with other people! Another way you can travel smart is to consider using a hybrid vehicle, or a vehicle that doesn’t require fuel to run. Examples are electric cars, which are powered by rechargeable batteries and can be charged using ordinary household electricity. If you can’t afford a vehicle that meets these adjustments, biodiesel and biofuel are always an option! This is a fuel derived by plants and animals and is often mixed with petroleum. Engines fueled by biodiesel are said to have less engine wear and can help reduce pollution.
